Per creare i suoi occhi camminò fino al mare

Ed al soffio del vento si fermò per pensare

«E i capelli» lui disse «con la sabbia farò

Oro e argento prezioso per vederli brillare

Quando poi sulla spiaggia lei volesse danzare

Con quei ciotoli bianchi a lei i piedi farò»

Mentre il vento portava lontano le nubi

«La sua bocca» pensò «la farò con il fiore

Che su terre lontane tempo fa seminavo

Quarzo e perle preziose per crearle un sorriso

Quando poi il suo mondo lei volesse abbracciare

Con le onde del mare a lei mani farò»

Ed agli uccelli in volo prenderò le piume

Per crearle la pelle del viso e dei polsi

E della gazzella avrà la dolcezza

E la paura della lepre

Ed il coraggio della tigre;

Ed io so bene che, incontrando l’amore

Che per lei ho pensato

Senza esitare lo riconoscerà

Così dal suo sogno la fanciulla destava e

Tutto quel regno ai suoi occhi si apriva

E l’uomo schiudeva le braccia e diceva

«Il mondo che vedi, da tempo attendeva»

E lei lo sapeva, già lo sapeva
