Подпирая щеку рукой,

От житейских устав невзгод,

Я на снимок гляжу с тоской,

А на снимке двадцатый год.

Над местечком клубится пыль,

Облетает вишневый цвет,

Мою маму зовут Рахиль,

Моей маме двенадцать лет.

Под зеленым ковром травы

Моя мама теперь лежит.

Ей защитой не стал, увы,

Ненадежный Давидов щит.

И кого из своих родных

Ненароком ни назову:

Кто стареет в краях иных,

Кто, убитый, лежит во рву.

Завершая урочный бег,

Солнце плавится за горой.

Двадцать первый тревожный век

Завершает свой год второй.

Выгорает седой ковыль,

Старый город во мглу одет,

Мою внучку зовут Рахиль,

Моей внучке двенадцать лет.

Пусть поет ей весенний хор,

Пусть минует ее слеза,

И глядят на меня в упор

Юной мамы моей глаза.

Отпусти нам, Господь, грехи

И детей упаси от бед.

Twenty-first troubled century

Finishes its second year.

The gray feather grass burns out,

The old city is dressed in darkness,

My granddaughter's name is Rachel,

My granddaughter is twelve years old.

Let the spring choir sing to her,

Let her tears pass

And they look at me point-blank

The young mother of my eye.

Forgive us, Lord, sins

And save the children from troubles.
