В колодезный квадрат двора

пришёл к нам музыкант с утра

ах боже мой

и в равнодушной тишине

запел о птицах и огне

и о любви одной.

Он о закрытом спел окне

он спел о бешеном коне

ещё он спел

о иве женщине одной

как плачет ива над рекой

ещё о том

как он безмерно одинок

как падает к ногам цветок

ещё о том

как стены старые темны

как серебрит их свет луны

ещё о том

как в битве был король убит

и наголову был разбит

его гвардейский полк

как плача мчался вдаль гонец

и сердце билось как птенец

и музыкант умолк.

И окна взглядом он обвёл

одно из двух я плохо пел

ты плох певец

или черствей я не встречал

чем в этом чёртовом дворе

людских сердец

как глухо голос здесь звучит

как окон мертвенно стекло,

но боже мой

как вздох раскрылось вдруг окно

и сердце радостью такой обволокло

и сверху женщина глядит

к его ногам летит цветок

ах боже мой

ведь ты теперь мой музыкант

глаза от радости закрой

не ради нот

ты пой на окна не смотри

лицо ты к небу запрокинь

ах боже мой

как стены старые темны,

но над твоею головой

такая синь.

и он запел день промелькнёт

взойдёт вечерняя звезда

закроется окно

ведь в этом чёртовом дворе

спокон веков и навсегда

так заведено.

Сквозь арку тёмную уйду

цветок подаренный храня,

но боже мой

в конце булыжной мостовой

всегда бросает в дрожь, а здесь

здесь вспомнят про меня.

И он цветок с земли поднял

и в арку тёмную шагнул

и вот уж разобрать с трудом

сквозь толщу каменных домов

и уличный тяжёлый гул

что он поёт о том

как музыкант пришёл с утра

a musician came to us in the morning

sang about birds and fire

He sang about the closed window

he sang about a mad horse

he also sang

about a single woman

how the willow weeps over the river

how he is immensely lonely

how a flower falls at your feet

more about that

like the old walls are dark

how the moonlight silvers them

more about that

how the king was killed in battle

and was utterly smashed

his guard regiment

how the messenger rushed into the distance crying

and my heart was beating like a chick

and the musician fell silent.

And he glanced around the windows

one of the two I sang badly

you are a bad singer

or callous I have not met

than in this damn yard

human hearts

how muffled the voice sounds here

like dead glass windows,

but my god

like a sigh the window suddenly opened

and the heart was enveloped in such joy

and a woman looks from above

a flower flies at his feet

not for notes

you sing at the windows do not look

throw your face up to the sky
