Vor Aufregung und Spannung und vor Angst und Illusion

Kriegte mich gar nicht mehr ein vor lauter Faszination

Und für mich war klar, die Welt war wie im Puppenspiel —

Fest in der Hand von Gretel und Kasperle, Großmutter, Wachtmeister und Krokodil

Ich wurde größer, ging zur Schule, und ich lernte Jahr für Jahr

Dass die Welt tatsächlich wie im Kasperletheater war

Manche Autorität traf ich da, tritra trallala

Manch Vorbild, das ich schon mal auf der kleinen Bühne sah

Plötzlich fand ich überall, wohin mein Blick auch fiel

Lauter Ableger von Gretel und Kasperle, Großmutter, Wachtmeister und Krokodil

Je ernster der Ernst des Lebens und je selt’ner der Humor

Desto häufiger kommt auch die Gattung Kasperle drin vor:

Sie sitzt auf allen Eb’nen und geht durch jede Instanz

Sie thront in der Pförtnerloge, spreizt sich in der Intendanz

Sieh dir nur mal deinen Chef an, ist das kein Musterbeispiel?

Die finden sich aber noch immer in der Politik

So tölpelhaft, so anmaßend, da übertrifft sie nur

Doch wenn du hinsiehst, sind’s Gretel und Kasperle, Großmutter, Wachtmeister

und Krokodil

Ich hab' den Weltenmechanismus schon mit fünf Jahren durchschaut

Und mir auf dieser Erkenntnis die Devise aufgebaut:

Sieh all' die Pappnasen mit Milde und Bescheidenheit

Fass dir mal an deine eigene und halte dich bereit

Denn vielleicht hast du ja schon 'ne kleine Rolle in dem Spiel —

The more serious the seriousness of life and the rarer the humor

The genus Kasperle also occurs all the more frequently in it:

It sits on all levels and goes through every instance
