The Big Bopper, born Jiles Perry Richardson Jr. in 1930 in the United States, was an American rock and roll pioneer, singer, songwriter, and DJ. He gained fame with his 1958 hit song "Chantilly Lace", which became a defining track of the early rock and roll era. Known for his larger-than-life personality and innovative approach to music and broadcasting, The Big Bopper also wrote songs for other artists, including "White Lightning", later popularized by George Jones. Tragically, his career was cut short in 1959 when he died in a plane crash alongside Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens. His contributions helped shape the rock and roll genre in its formative years.
