Roy Ayers is an American composer and musician born in 1940. He is known for his contributions to funk, soul, and jazz. Beginning his career as a jazz artist, Ayers released several albums on Atlantic Records . In the 1970s, he signed with Polydor Records and became one of the pioneers of jazz-funk. Among his best-known compositions are " Everybody Loves the Sunshine ," " Searchin " and " Running Away ." His work has had a significant influence on acid jazz and neo-soul, and his music is often sampled in rap.
