RAY BLK, born Rita Ekwere on August 2, 1993, is a British R&B, pop, and hip-hop artist originally from Nigeria and raised in Catford, London. She gained widespread recognition after winning the BBC Sound of 2017, becoming the first unsigned artist to achieve this honor. On October 28, 2016, she released her debut EP, Durt, which garnered critical acclaim. In January 2018, she signed with the British division of Island Records. Her debut studio album, Access Denied, was released in October 2021 to positive reviews. RAY BLK is celebrated for her authentic storytelling and contributions to contemporary R&B and hip-hop.
