Marko Hietala (also known as Marco Hietala ) is a Finnish musician, born January 14, 1966. He is best known as the former bassist and second vocalist for the symphonic metal band Nightwish , which he joined in 2002 before recording the album Century Child . Prior to that, he was a member of the band Tarot , where he performed vocals and bass. He also collaborated with the band Sinergy and participated in the recording of the Virtuocity album Secret Visions . Hietala made a significant contribution to the development of symphonic metal, combining powerful vocals with virtuoso bass playing.
