
Mark Knopfler is a British rock musician, singer, guitarist, and songwriter, born in 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland. He is best known as the co-founder and leader of the band Dire Straits, which gained international fame with hits like "Sultans of Swing" and "Money for Nothing". The latter earned a Grammy Award in 1986 for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. Beyond his work with Dire Straits, Knopfler has had a successful solo career and contributed to film soundtracks. Recognized for his distinctive fingerpicking guitar style, he was ranked 27th on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time in 2003. His work has left a lasting impact on rock and film music.
