Lester Flatt (1914–1979) was an American bluegrass guitarist and mandolinist. He is best known for his collaboration with banjoist Earl Scruggs in the duo Flatt and Scruggs . Flatt career began in the 1940s when he played in Bill Monroe band, and he later achieved widespread fame through solo projects and collaborations with Scruggs . Their music, including hits like "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" became iconic for the bluegrass genre.
