Epica is a Dutch band founded in 2003 by rhythm guitarist and vocalist Марком Янсеном after his departure from After Forever . The band performs symphonic metal, combining female vocals with male growls and screams, creating a distinctive "beauty and the beast" duet. The arrangements make extensive use of string orchestra and choirs. Among their best-known albums are "The Divine Conspiracy" and "Design Your Universe" Epica has made a significant contribution to the development of symphonic metal, becoming one of the most recognizable bands in the genre.
