
Amorphis is a Finnish English-language metal band founded in 1990 by Jan Rechberger and Esa Holopainen. The band is known for its diverse sound, which evolved from death metal on their debut album to a fusion of Finnish folk music and death/doom metal on subsequent releases. The album "Elegy" marked a turning point, adding Pasi Koskinen's clean vocals to Tomi Koivusaari's growling vocals. The band's later work incorporates elements of progressive rock. Amorphis made a significant contribution to the development of progressive metal, combining tradition and innovation in their music.
