The Longest Winter -

Sleepless and frozen

Alone in my hole

So now I know

How strong I can be

My mind’s a blade forged by the cold

The nights were truth

Telling me the things

That I should do to make them all just go away

Who is this person you have become

What is this blanket of despair you’ve wrapped yourself in, son

I can hear them chewing

From within

If I lay still enough

And hold my breath and listen

A constant reminder

Of what I’ve done

Walk on out the door

And slap the smile on my face

So no one knows this life I live within these walls

And what shall it be

An empty glass

Or do I set myself free

Never have I stood at this crossroads before

But my mind is tired and my heart is growing sore

Some see through the shroud I’ve put on

They sense I’m unbalanced and struggling to be strong

So I promised this oath

To believe in who I am

To let loose of the ghost

The past is not who I am

Focused on rising

And walking a path

That’s loving and true
