Conquered Air -

August 5th: A cold and open night,

I can hear the breeze;

I can hear the sounds of the night.

I can’t sleep, I can’t close my eyes.

Something doesn’t feel right …

I can’t hear the thoughts in my mind.

A new day is dawning …

A rising sun,

a weathered pencil drawing in the mud.

The train is still boarding, there faces glum;

the captain brings the orders to leave at once.

And everybody’s looking up to the sky

and praying for the conquered air.

Tell me the story

of when its done,

the fine details of glory and whats to come.

When everybody’s looking up to the sky

as if to see the conquered air.

God I pray to give me strength and help today,

Help me stay safe …

Oh lord hear me now.

Run over open ground,

can’t enshroud anymore.

Look out across the land,

flailing hands go down.

Push on we must advance

through the guns and the gas.

Rain falling from white clouds,

wash the blood from our hands.

I tried to be as strong as I could be

but the pain is just too much,

I’m cold and I can’t go on.

Hold off sleep,

don’t take me now.
