Quand on se trouve en face de l’incompréhensible,

On dit généralement: «ce n'était que le chat»,

Mais le chat somnolait sur le lit en pacha,

Ronronnant de plaisir sous la main invisible.

Quand on ouvre les yeux au milieu de la nuit

Et que l’on tend l’oreille en guettant quelque bruit,

On se fie à soi même en remontant le drap:

«Ce n'était que le vent"ou «ce n'était qu’un rat»

Mais on accuse à tort la gent trotte-menu

Et les intempéries, je sais qui est venu,

Le fantôme n’est pas celui de ma grande tante,

Depuis que je l’ai vue, une fille me hante.

Quand je l’ai raconté, personne ne m’a cru,

Le drap qui séchait sur le fil a disparu,

Et s’il a disparu, c’est que quelqu’un l’a pris

Ou est-ce par l’opération du Saint-Esprit?

Mais on accuse à tort un pauvre bohémien,

Je sais que ma maison est sur le plan de vol

D’un fantôme léger comme un aérosol,

Je l’appelle Sandra puisqu’elle a pris le mien.

Les fantômes ne se promènent pas tout nus

Dans les châteaux humides et pleins de courants d’air

Et il faut reconnaitre que le drap pour tenue

Est plus avantageux qu’un sac de pommes de terre.

Elle était ce matin dans mon rideau de douche

Quand je me savonnais, à la jambe il me touche,

Et j’ai su reconnaitre à ce contact froid,

Le chiffre des fantômes, la surprise et l’effroi.
