Lazarus Man - Terry Callier

I met a young man

on a Skeleton coast.

He was on of his feet,

pale as a ghost.

I’ve asked his name,

he said Lazarus, man.

I come to this country

from a far away land.

I can’t quite remember

last time I was on shore.

It could’ve been twelve years,

could’ve been more.

I’ve seen tabulation

that troubled my mind.

I can’t quite remember

what I come here to find.

And it’s wind on the ocean,

rain on the land.

Three drops of water,

one grain of sand.

I’ll tell you this story

as quick as I can.

I got nothing but time,

I’m Lazarus, man.

He said «I woke up one morning,

felt a little bit strange,

by mid afternoon

there was fever and pain.

Later that night

with my friends on my side

I went after to sleep

and I guess that I died,

I was stumbling and rising

so I couldn’t quite tell

one foot in glory

and one foot in hell.

on one side of garden

and on one side of flame,

I thought I heard somebody

call out my name.

Yeah, somebody was saying

«Lazarus, arise!».

I set up,

opened my eyes.

You know I wanted to dance,

but I didn’t have room.

So I threw off the sheets,

walked down out the tomb

And it’s wind on the ocean,

rain on the land.

To Higher Barbaree

but since he has been arised
