I woke up, the day seemed like any other

Awaken from my dreams from the screams of my mother

«You need to get up T, it’s time to go to school!»

But at seventeen I didn’t give a fuck about the rules

So you know that I was late, stumbled into class

A quarter past eight, smelling like the grass

That I has smoked on the way, and plus I stopped for gas

So when I finally sat down, you best believe I was harassed

So I zoned out for the next couple of hours

Dreaming about the day that the rap game would be ours

And when I say «ours», you know it’s 'cause I’ve got a crew

We’re called the (pause) and we’re coming through to you

The rest of the day was not too exciting

I spent my lunch outside on the steps busy writing

I wasn’t very social and I never fit in

I had my close knit group of friends and we was riding to the end

And when that final bell rang, I breathed a sigh of relief

By the end of the day I filled a page of loose leaf

And that was my routine, like all I thought about

The everyday cycle, day in and day out

And now I was off to kick it with my friends

Time to practice with The Abners cuz you know this shit transcends

Every type of genre, we like all types of music

If i only stuck to hip hop then my raps would be useless

Lucas showed up late, but what’s new

He’s the undeniable talent behind our whole crew

This dude’s mad freaky when he gets behind the drums

And he’s down to buy us booze 'cause he’s over twenty one

On this particular day he brought his brother Shane along

Which was always cool with me because he liked to sing us songs

The vibe was mad good, we were drinking and laughing

Never did I foresee what was about to happen

We wrapped it up at eight, chilled and smoked till nine

We were feelin great with music banging from the alpine speakers

A bunch of pleasure seekers

I didn’t even notice I spilled brew on my sneakers

I tried to get Kube to come over to the pad

To drink brew and watch movies with me and my dad

But he was like «Nah man, I’m too fucked up for that»

Damn the irony kills me upon looking back

And it’s a good thing that he didn’t roll out

'Cause what waited at my house was fucked up without a doubt

Now it was time to go, so we hopped into the van

If I’d have known my fate ahead of time, I’d have up and ran

Driving down the highway, listening to Dylan

Like a Rolling Stone, rebellious like a villian

When we pulled up to my crib everything seemed alright

The front porch light was on, illuminating the cold night

We sat in the driveway to finish up the song

I gave my boys a pound, and then I moved along

When I got out of the van I felt the chills down my spine

Never have I felt so damn uncomfortably divine

I walked in, and thought I must be tripping

My eyes are lying to me 'cause reality is different

Than the scene that I saw when I rolled through the door

The couch turned up on its side, my pops unconscious on the floor

And that hurt.

That hurt fucking bad

At seventeen you’re not supposed to bury your own dad

But I guess you’ve gotta learn to make the best from what you’ve got

And that’s real

I think I need some time off to forget about my problems
