Opalescent steel grey eyes reveal to me the amber encased insect’s sleep

My love she’s sated in throes of r.e.m.

sleep I lean to the window and peer

through the blinds to the crooked tree while its gnarled roots corkscrew

through the sidewalk in a sentient effort to take flight.

Malnourished on sewage, maladapted to the sickly pall of the street lamp’s

jaundiced eye.

I am beside you this sheltering night as your fingers weave through mine.

Teeth are clenching right.

Forcing back nystagmic flutters.

Sleep’s enticing ties and tethers.

Here is where it all comes to end.

Shall we pretend we are not human closing chapter in the years of the full moon.

Downtown they’re dragging in the river where the waters wind and wend about the

factories.
