in der Rauhnächte einsamkeit

wo Ruh und Stille enden mit einem Schlag

bricht ein Sturm los — Die wilde Jagd

Wie ein Feuerschweif am schwarzen Himmel

zieht der Geisterzug mit seinen Schimmeln

Geschrei und Gebell künd'gen Unzeiten an

und das Totenheer jagt weiter voran

Hört ihr, Blitz und Donner — wilde Jagd

Alte Krieger von Asgard auch

reiten ein in Midgards Land

bringen Unheil und Verderben

Tod und Hunger, Schmach und Schand

Das bleiche und kalte Leben

hält Einzug im Wald

wie ein Sturm verdammter Seelen

nimmt es ein, Landstriche bald

Wer dem Totenzug verfällt

und das leibhaft’ge Grauen sieht

muss nun sehen das er schnell

vor den schwarzen Horden flieht

Doch wenn die Flucht vergebens ist

nimmt das Schicksal seinen Lauf

ist er des Heeres Ein geworden

und tauch nun auch am Himmel auf
