«Уист-уи!»

Маленькую Ди

Повстречал я в зарослях

На моём пути.

Из своего укрытия,

Словно по наитию,

Появилась быстрая,

Сказала: «Погоди!

На меня так пристально, человек высокий,

На меня так пристально

Лучше не гляди.

Прошу тебя, пожалуйста, ты гляди на море,

Ты гляди на море,

Уист-уи».

И пошёл я к морю,

И увидел вскоре

Трёх малюток эльфов, спросивших у меня:

«Не видел ли ты девушку,

Девушку-смуглянку,

Что куда-то скрылась на закате дня?»

Не сказал я правду им,

Я сказал: «Не видел», —

И, как белки, прыгая,

Скрылись с глаз моих;

Чтоб увидеть тёмное

Платье её скромное,

Все углы обшарили в зарослях густых.

И в тени деревьев

Я, ушам не веря,

Тихий крик услышал: «Ты любим, любим!»

«Уист-уи, — ответил я

И взглянул на ветви я, —

Все исчезновением взволнованы твоим».

«Уист-уи" — два слова, два коротких слова.

Их сегодня птицы повторять готовы,

Море их поёт, слова заветные твои:

«Уист-уи, уист-уи».

Я взглянул на заросли,

На деревья стройные,

Как и прежде, были там птицы беспокойные;

Только маленькая Ди

Уж не скажет: «Уист-уи»,

Мне она торжественно не скажет: «Уист-уи».

И пошёл я по холмам,

По горам,

И нашёл могилу там

Под высокою горою;

На колени тихо встал

И печально написал

На песке своей рукою:

«Спит здесь маленькая Ди,

Спит недалеко от моря.

Всё проходит.

Little Dee

I met in the bushes

On my way.

From your hiding place

As if on a whim,

There was a fast

She said, "Wait!

And I went to the sea

And soon I saw

Three little elves who asked me:

"Didn't you see the girl,

dark-skinned girl,

What disappeared somewhere at sunset?”

I didn't tell them the truth

I said: "I didn't see" -

And, like squirrels, jumping,

They disappeared from my eyes;

To see the dark

Her dress is modest,

All corners were searched in thick thickets.

And in the shade of the trees

I, not believing my ears,

A quiet cry was heard: "You are loved, loved!"

"Wist-wee," I replied

And I looked at the branches, -

Everyone is excited about your disappearance.

"Wist-wee" - two words, two short words.

Birds are ready to repeat them today,

Their sea sings, your cherished words:

"Wist-wee, whist-wee."

I looked at the thickets

The trees are slender,

As before, there were restless birds;

Only little Dee

He won’t say: “Wist-wee”,

She will not solemnly say to me: "Wist-wee."

And I went through the hills

Over the mountains

And found a grave there

Under a high mountain;

Quietly knelt down

And sadly wrote

On the sand with your own hand:

"Little Dee sleeps here,

Sleeps near the sea.

Everything passes.
