Totes Land liegt kahl und brach

und der Geist, seiner selbst, schwebt über dem Wasser:

Götterdämmerung.

Und der Odem des Herrn weht

gleich dichtem Nebel über die Lande.

Es werde Licht.

Und es ward Licht.

Durch Asche auf den Flammen

fährt der dunkle Meister empor.

Der ew’ge Kampf dunkler Mächte:

Götterdämmerung

Dead land lies bare and fallow

and the spirit, of itself, hovers over the water:

Twilight of the Gods.

And the breath of the Lord blows

like dense fog over the land.

Let there be light.

And there was light.

By ash on the flames

rises the dark master.
