Von des Westens eitlen Türmen aus Glas und Überheblichkeit

Zu den fernöstlichen Stürmen aus Stahl, Beton und Duldsamkeit

Quält alle Menschen, alle Tage, keine Antwort — eine Frage:

Warum hat Gott kein Gesicht?

«Weil Gott nicht durch deine Lippen zu dir spricht!»

Warum sieht Gott mich nicht an?

«Weil Gott nicht durch deine Augen sehen kann!»

Ob nun Bücher, reich an Wissen, ob Lämmer, Kälber, Ziegen;

Ob Säuglinge, ob Jungfrauen auf den Altaren liegen

Ist Tag ein und aus seit Anbeginn der Zeit schlichtweg egal

Wohin man blickt, wonach man sucht mit abertausend Zungen spricht die Qual:

Warum hört mir Gott nicht zu?

«Weil Gott nicht durch Ohren hören kann wie du.»

Warum hat Gott keinen Mund?

«Gott gibt seine Wahrheit nicht durch Worte kund!»

«Ich glaube an das eine, an das ohne Gesicht!

Das frei von allen Sünden ist, das weder hört noch spricht!

An das, was niemals ansieht, das vor mir war und nach mir bleibt

An das, was aus mir ewiglich, aufs neue seine Wurzeln treibt.»

Warum hat Gott kein Gesicht?

Warum sieht mich Gott nicht an?

Warum hört mir Gott nicht zu?

Warum hat Gott keinen Mund?

To the Far Eastern storms of steel, concrete and tolerance

Torments everyone, every day, no answer — one question:

Why doesn't God have a face?

«Because God does not speak to you through your lips!»

Why doesn't God look at me?

"Because God can't see through your eyes!"

Whether books, rich in knowledge, whether lambs, calves, goats;

Whether babies, whether virgins lie on the altars

Doesn't matter day in and day out since the beginning of time

Wherever one looks, what one seeks, agony speaks with thousands and thousands of tongues:

Why doesn't God listen to me?

"Because God can't hear through ears like you."

Why doesn't God have a mouth?

"God does not reveal his truth through words!"

«I believe in the one thing without a face!

That is free from all sins, that neither hears nor speaks!

Of that which never looks, that was before me and remains after me

To that which drives its roots out of me eternally anew.»
