Prometheus war’s, er schuf den Menschen

Gab seinen Kindern ein Gesicht

Unsterblich, schön und voller Unschuld

Doch das reichte ihm noch nicht

Er wollte sie auch mächtig machen

Gleich den Göttern seiner Zeit

So stahl er ihnen auch die Glut

Das Feuer in der Dunkelheit

Der Göttervater ward erzürnt

Ob solcher dreisten Diebestat

Er sehnte sich nach Rache bald

Wollt strafen Dieb und seine Saat

So schuf in grenzenlosem Hass

Die Götterwelt ein einz’ges Weib

Vollkommen, das sollte sie sein

Verführerisch der ganze Leib

Prometheus wies Pandora ab

Es war nicht Schönheit, die er sah

Er blickte auf den zarten Leib

Verspürte Hass, List und Gefahr

Doch sein Bruder war ein Tor

Er nahm die Schöne bei sich auf

Die Truhe ward geöffnet bald

So nahm das Schicksal seinen Lauf

Pandora wurd das Herz so schwer

Als sie ihren Fehler sah

Sie ward allein und sprach zu sich:

«Ich wünschte, das was ich nun tu

Bringt Hoffnung ein in diese Welt!»

So öffnet sie erneut die Truh
