Zierliche Abdrücke in den Sand

Mit einem Gebälk aus Mühe und Schweiß

Gezimmert mit Kunst und aus Lachen und Weinen

Aus Lust und aus Liedern

Sie flogen weit hinaus in die Welt

In das sich Mistel und Efeu weben

In allen Wettern ein sicheres Gefach

Aus Flügeln, die kreiselnd zu Boden sinken

Wird neu der Ahorn in jedem Jahr

Und Sonnenlicht wird in Tautropfen blinken

Und Schnee wird fallen im Januar

Ein Haus, umweht von allen vier Winden

Vom Sommer durchglüht, vom Herbststurm umtost

Wir werden einander darin wiederfinden

Filled with high spirits, playing and singing

Where neighbors say hello over the hedge

Give everyone a helping hand

There is a track left by children's feet

Delicate footprints in the sand

A house made of words and bricks

With a beam of effort and sweat

Carved with art and laughter and tears

For pleasure and for songs

Out of lust and songs, out of work and diligence

We gave every child wings

They flew far out into the world

And wanderlust and love of life were her compass

Confidence her anchor and tent

We have given every child roots

Learned together, with basic trust

In all storms of life out of love

A wagon castle to build around us

One with just a canopy of leaves

In which mistletoe and ivy weave

A safe compartment in all weathers

Of wings that spin and sink to the ground

The maple grows new every year

And sunlight will twinkle in dewdrops

And snow will fall in January

A house blown by all four winds

Glowing through the summer, surrounded by the autumn storm

We will find each other in it

And joy will be there, and joy will be there

And there will be joy and peace and comfort
