Wahlsonntag - Reinhard Mey

Ich freu' mich immer mächtig auf den Wahlsonntag

Denn, was ich an dem Tag so ganz besonders mag

Ist die große Monster-Show, die Fernseh-Live-Diskussion

Mit Vertretern von Regierung und Opposition!

Die strahlen und lachen über beide Schlitzohren

Sie haben diese Wahl zwar wieder haushoch verloren

Aber jedesmal erklären sie mir klipp und klar

Dass sie die wahren Gewinner sind, wie wunderbar!

«Diese Wahl», jubelt der erste, «zeigt uns einwandfrei:

Der Wählertrend geht immer mehr zu uns’rer Partei

Denn die erdrutschartigen Verluste heute liegen nur

An der ungewöhnlich sonderbaren Wählerstruktur!

Und in dem, was Sie da eine Wahlschlappe nennen

Ist der Aufwärtstrend doch überdeutlich zu erkennen

Seh’n Sie, unsere Verluste war’n noch niemals so gut

Der Kurs stimmt, weiter so, dieses Ergebnis macht Mut!»

«Unser Sieg», so bricht es gleich aus einem ander’n heraus

«Sieht nur beim ersten Blick wie eine Katastrophe aus

Vorübergehend sind wir zwar im tiefen Wellental

Aber dieser Tiefpunkt ist wie ein Hoffnungssignal!

Man darf die Wechselwähler nur nicht wegdiskutieren —

Und den Wettereinfluß auf sie aus den Augen verlieren!

Die Massen wollen uns, und das ganz allein zählt

Und wenn nun heut nicht gerade Sonntag wär', hätten sie uns gewählt!»

«Seh'n Sie uns’re Hochrechnung mal im Zusammenhang:

Dies ist eine Auferstehung und kein Untergang!

Der totale Stimmenschwund, der zeigt uns doch indes

Einen ganz normalen, segensreichen Schrumpfungsprozess

Sie seh’n ja selber, alle Analysen zeigen:

Die Einbußen sind noch immer ständig im Steigen

Und so gesehen und ganz nebenbei bemerkt

Hat uns diese Niederlage ganz gewaltig gestärkt!»

Und in einem Punkt, da stimmen alle überein:

«Wir können mit dem Wahlausgang zufrieden sein!»

«Wir haben unser Ziel ganz knapp verfehlt, drauf kam es an!»

Ach mit wie wenig man Politiker schon glücklich machen kann!

Denn kommen sie dem Abgrund auch immer dichter

Sie zeigen uns doch immer lange lachende Gesichter

Und geben uns eine Lektion in Genügsamkeit

Das sag' ich hier und heute und in aller Deutlichkeit!

I always look forward to election Sunday

Because what I particularly like about the day

Is the big monster show, the live television discussion

With representatives of government and opposition!

They beam and laugh at both rascals

You lost this election by a mile

But every time they explain to me in no uncertain terms

That they are the real winners, how wonderful!

"This election," the first exults, "shows us unequivocally:

The voter trend goes more and more to our party

Because the landslide losses today are only

The unusually strange voter structure!

And in what you call an electoral defeat

The upward trend is clearly visible

You see, our losses have never been so good

The course is right, keep it up, this result is encouraging!»

"Our victory", it breaks out immediately from another

«It only looks like a disaster at first glance

We are temporarily in the deep trough of the waves

But this bottom is like a beacon of hope!

You just can’t argue away the swing voters —

And lose sight of the influence of the weather on them!

The masses want us, and that alone counts

And if today wasn't exactly Sunday, they would have voted for us!"

«Take a look at our extrapolation in context:

This is a resurrection and not a downfall!

The total loss of votes shows us, however

A completely normal, beneficial shrinking process

You can see for yourself, all analyzes show:

The losses are still constantly increasing

And so seen and by the way

This defeat strengthened us enormously! »

And on one point everyone agrees:

"We can be satisfied with the outcome of the election!"

"We just missed our target, that's what counted!"

Oh, with how little you can make politicians happy!

Because they are getting closer and closer to the abyss

They always show us long smiling faces

And teach us a lesson in frugality

I say that here and today and in all clarity!
