Wenn es draußen gießt und hagelt, wenn es stürmt und wenn es schneit

Ist zu Haus' zu sein für mich der Gipfel der Gemütlichkeit

Ich hol' mir den weichsten Sessel und die beste Flasche Wein

Und dann stell' ich mir im Radio meine Lieblingssendung ein:

«Die A 12 wird umgeleitet über Anschlussstelle Nord

U 4 und U 6: verbreitet Zähflüssigkeit.

Ab sofort

Staut es sich vor der B 80, denn im weiteren Verlauf

Der U 25 macht sich jetzt eine Kolonne auf

Der Transport mit Überbreite auf der Autobahn A 10

Auf der falschen Fahrbahnseite, kommt nur nach und nach zum Steh’n —

Auf der A 3 weiden Ziegen, die B 9 ist voll gesperrt

Der Verkehr kommt zum Erliegen.

— Es folgt ein Klavierkonzert!»

Weil ich morgens gern lang' schlafe und nur schwer aufstehen kann

Komm' ich, wenn ich wo hinkomme, immer mit Verspätung an

Und fragt mich wer: «Ja, wo war’n Sie denn?»

mit vorwurfsvollem Ton

Wiederhol' ich höflich lächelnd die Verkehrsinformation:

Das Benzin wird immer teurer, doch das kann ich mir jetzt spar’n

Hab' mein Auto längst verkauft — wozu soll ich noch selber fahr’n?

Wenn ich Stress und Nervenkitzel auch viel bill’ger haben kann —

Ich geh' Abgas schnuppern und stell' mein Transistorradio an!

For me, being at home is the pinnacle of comfort

I'll get the softest armchair and the best bottle of wine

And then I tune in to my favorite show on the radio:

Oversized transport on the A 10 motorway

On the wrong side of the road, comes to a standstill little by little —

Because I like to sleep late in the morning and find it difficult to get up

When I get somewhere, I always arrive late

And who asks me: "Yes, where were you?"

with a reproachful tone

I repeat the traffic information with a polite smile:

Gasoline is getting more and more expensive, but I can save that now

I sold my car a long time ago - why should I still drive myself?

If I can have stress and thrills much cheaper -

I'll sniff the exhaust gas and turn on my transistor radio!
