Wenn ich mit hängenden Schultern zur Schule ging

Weil drohend mich die Finsternis der Bruchrechnung umfing

Strickte ich mir eine Überlebensstrategie

Eine Art von Zauberformel und die versagte nie:

Spring auf den blanken Stein

Tritt nicht auf die Fuge dabei

Steh auf dem linken Bein

Und zähle dreimal bis drei

Lauf bis zum Kiosk, solang die Leuchtreklame blinkt

Und zur Kreuzung, eh die Ampel auf Grün umspringt

Wenn das dritte Auto schwarz ist und das vierte mein Bus

Heißt das, daß ich heut in Rechnen nicht an die Tafel muß

Wie wünschte ich mir, daß sie bemerkt, daß es mich gibt

Daß sich diese Schönheit unsterblich in mich verliebt!

Ich war struppig, doof und schüchtern, ich war unscheinbar

Aber unerschütterlichen Glaubens, denn eins war mir klar:

Und zähle dreimal bis drei

Wenn ich jetzt in dem Stück Kuchen einen Kirschkern find

Und ich spuck ihn mit geschloßnen Augen und treffe blind

Dort den dicken Bodybuilder und der sagt kein Wort

Kommt sie noch heut mit auf mein Zimmer und erlegt mich sofort!

Natürlich ist das Hokuspokus, einem Abzählreim

So einem Deppenorakel gehst doch du nicht auf den Leim

Aber erstens kommt es anders und zweitens manchmal

Hast du keine andre Wahl als — Kopf oder Zahl…

Wenn die Grau-Frau dich im Halteverbot nicht aufschreibt

Wenn die Münze, die du wirfst, auf dem Rand stehn bleibt

Eene meene muh und Mausespeck und du bist weg

Und dieser Schatten auf dem Röntgenbild ist nur ein Kaffeefleck!

When the third car is black and the fourth is my bus

Does that mean that I don't have to go to the blackboard for arithmetic today?

How I wish she would notice that I exist

That this beauty falls madly in love with me!

I was shaggy, stupid and shy, I was unassuming

But with unshakable faith, because one thing was clear to me:

And I spit it with my eyes closed and hit blind
