Ich weiß gar nicht, wie ich beginnen soll,

so viel Gedanken, und mein Herz ist übervoll,

so viel Gefühle drängen sich zur selben Zeit: Freude

und Demut und Dankbarkeit.

Im Arm der Mutter, die dich schweigend hält,

blinzelst du vorsichtig ins Licht der Welt,

in deinen ersten Morgen, und ich denk':dies ist mein

Kind, welch ein Geschenk!

Wenn alle Hoffnungen verdorr’n,

mit dir beginn' ich ganz von vorn,

und Unerreichbares erreichen,

ja ich kann’s!Du bist das Apfelbäumchen, das ich pflanz!

Sieh dich um, nun bist du ein Teil der Welt,

die sich selbst immerfort in Frage stellt,

wo Menschen ihren Lebensraum zerstör'n,

beharrlich jede Warnung überhör'n.

Ein Ort der Widersprüche, arm und reich,

voll bittrer Not und Überfluß zugleich,

ein Ort der Kriege, ein Ort voller Leid,

wo Menschen nichts mehr fehlt, als Menschlichkeit!

Du bist ein Licht in ungewisser Zeit,

ein Ausweg aus der Ausweglosigkeit,

wie ein Signal, den Weg weiterzugeh’n,

Herausforderung witer zu besteh’n.

Wo vieles voller Zweifel, manches zum Verzweifeln ist, da

macht ein Kind, daß du alle Zweifel vergißt.

Es sind in einer Welt, die ziel- und rastlos treibt, die

Kinder doch die einz’ge Hoffnung, die uns bleibt!

Look around, now you're a part of the world

who constantly questions herself,

where people destroy their living space,

persistently ignore every warning.

A place of contradictions, poor and rich,

full of bitter need and abundance at the same time,

a place of wars, a place of suffering,

where people lack nothing more than humanity!

You are a light in uncertain times

a way out of hopelessness,

like a signal to keep going,

Challenge to continue.

Where many things are full of doubts, some things make you despair, there

makes a child that you forget all doubts.

In a world that drifts aimlessly and restlessly, they are the

Children, the only hope that remains for us!
