Im Schulzentrum in der Thälmanstraße

Kati haßt deutsch und Sandy Mathematik

Und beide stehn auf Rave und Techno, — jede Art von Musik

Die gleichen Haare, die gleiche Art sich zu kleiden

Die gleichen Löcher in den Jeans, immer zusammen die beiden

Zuhaus immer Zoff, zuhaus immer Krach

Und ihre Zuflucht ist vom Supermarkt das Parkhausdach

Zwischen Fahrstuhl, Müllcontainern und Einkaufswagen

Manchmal kann man das Leben nur noch hier oben ertragen

Katis Mutter stresst den ganzen Tag für jede Kleinigkeit

Sandys Vater hängt im Sofa, schon am Mittag breit

Und dann kommen seine fiesen, ekligen Sprüche

Und Mutter hört die lustg’en Musikanten in der Küche

Manchmal ist alles so sinnlos, hat alles keinen Zweck

Manchmal sehnen sich die beiden weit, weit weg

Weit weit weg aus diesem Film, raus aus der Kulisse

Dem Parkhaus, dem Gestank von Autos und Pisse

Und dann läßt Sandy schon mal zwei, drei von den Fläschchen

Mitgehn

Die im Supermarkt körbeweis vor der Kasse stehn

Die, die den lustigen Spaß im Glas verheißen

Das reicht dann, um für ein paar Stunden auszureißen

Aus der Trostlosigkeit, aus dem Schrott, aus dem Schwund

In eine Welt, wie im Werbefernsehn, so schön und so bunt

Kati und Sandy, Kati und Sandy

Kati kriegt 'ne fünf in Deutsch, ein Heidentheater

Und Sandy voll den Streß mit ihrem Vater

Der grabscht sie an, der schlägt um sich im Zorn

Und Sandy klaut ihm seine Flasche mit dem Apfelkorn

Und die Volksmusik spielt, und die Türen knallen

Und Sandys Schritte im Treppenhaus hallen

Im kahlen Betonschacht noch lange nach

Und Kati wartet schon auf sie auf dem Parkhausdach

Vor dem Graffiti beim Fahrstuhlhaus zusammengesunken

Der Fröhlichmacher ist ausgetrunken

Die Flasche rollt und scheppert im Treppenhaus

Nein, es führt sie kein Weg aus diesem Elend hier 'raus

Da ist keiner, der versucht sich einzuschalten

Da ist auch kein Freund, der sagt: «Komm mit, scheiß egal

Was bess’res als keinen Ausweg findest du allemal!»

«Wir machen alles zusammen!», haben sie sich geschworen

Aneinandergekauert, den Walkman auf den Ohren

Und die Nähe und die Wärme der and’ren tut gut

Auf dem zugigen Dach, und die Musik macht Mut

Und sie halten sich wie Liebende bei den Händen

Nur noch einen Schritt und alles wird sich wenden!

Und zusammen vom sechsten Parkhausdeck

Fliegen die beiden, weit, weit weg …

Kati hates German and Sandy hates mathematics

And both like rave and techno — any kind of music

Same hair, same way of dressing

The same holes in the jeans, always together the two of them

Always trouble at home, always trouble at home

And their refuge from the supermarket is the roof of the parking garage

Between the elevator, garbage containers and shopping trolleys

Sometimes you can only endure life up here

Kati's mother stresses all day for every little thing

Sandy's father hangs on the sofa, already wide at noon

And then come his nasty, disgusting sayings

And mother hears the merry musicians in the kitchen

Sometimes everything is so pointless, everything has no purpose

Sometimes the two long for far, far away

Far far away from this film, out of the wings

The parking garage, the smell of cars and piss

And then Sandy leaves two or three of the bottles

Kati gets a five in German, a heathen theater

And Sandy has all the trouble with her father

He grabs her, he lashes out in anger

And Sandy steals his bottle with the apple grain

And the folk music plays and the doors slam

And Sandy's steps echo in the stairwell

In the bare concrete shaft long after

And Kati is already waiting for her on the roof of the parking garage

Slumped in front of the graffiti by the elevator building

The cheerleader is drunk

The bottle rolls and rattles in the stairwell

No, there's no way out of this misery

There's no one trying to tune in

There's no one trying to stop them

There's also no friend who says: «Come with me, it doesn't matter

You'll always find something better than no way out!"

"We'll do everything together!" They swore to each other

Huddled together, the Walkman on his ears

And the closeness and warmth of others is good

On the drafty roof, and the music encourages

And they hold hands like lovers

Just one more step and everything will change!
