Wenn ich durch die großen Straßen geh'

Und morgens die vielen Menschen seh'

Sie laufen herum

So ernst und so stumm

Und tragen ihr Alltagsgesicht

Wie Masken durch Sonne und Licht

Sie wälzen Probleme, die mit ihnen gehen

Gedanken, die aus ihren Augen sehen

Um Geld und Brot

Um Glück und um Not

Es dreht sich doch alles ums ICH

Denn jeder denkt nur noch an sich

Was kümmert es sie wenn ein Vogel singt

Wenn die Bäume blühn nd der Springbrunnen springt

Sie hetzen gequält

Ihr Uhrzeiger zählt

Nur die Stunden im Kampf um Gewinn

Alles andere hat kaum für sie Sinn

Wenn ich durch die großen Straßen geh'

Und morgens die vielen Menschen seh'

Dann tun sie mir leid

Denn ich habe Zeit

Mir fehlt’s zwar an Gut und an Geld

Dafür seh' ich die Schönheit der Welt

So serious and so dumb

And wear their everyday faces

Like masks through sun and light

They roll over problems that go with them

Thoughts that see out of their eyes

For money and bread

For luck and for hardship

It's all about ME

Because everyone only thinks of themselves

What do they care if a bird sings

When the trees bloom and the fountain jumps

They rush tormented

Your watch hand counts

Only the hours in the struggle for profit

Everything else makes little sense to them

When I walk through the big streets

And see the many people in the morning

Then I feel sorry for you

Because I have time

I lack goods and money

That's why I see the beauty of the world
