Skuggor syns i månens sken

I issnön irrar fyra ben

Den ene kraxar ondsint hat

Den andre cirklar desperat

En bitter tår, en kylig blick

En beskhet i ett giftigt stick

Handen hårt kring skaftet höll

Den ena skuggan bruten föll

Den enes död, den andres dåd

När ingen kunnat visa nåd

Den enes blad, den andre drog

Och stack så att den förste dog

Man sökte då, man söker än

Den ene av de båda män

Som under månljus någonstans

Var part i denna dödens dans

En djup och sorglig avgrund dväljs i djupet av hans själ

Som suktande av hunger gör sin bärare till träl

Den växer liksom röta om den en gång slagit rot

Och bränner liksom feber, den som icket står emot

Det finns ej något motgift om den en gång sugit luft

Den krossar fröjd och lycka och den kväver sunt förnuft

Den har ej några gränser, den vill se hur bröder dö

Den besudlar andens renhet liksom blodet färgar snö

Vad stred de om, vad stred de för?

I kamp som dräper och förgör

Den ene har ej något kvar

Av det som nu den andre har

En har livet, en har dött

Där blodet runnit varmt och rött

En har mistat liv och guld

Den andre vunnit evig skuld

The other circles desperately

A bitterness in a poisonous stick

The hand held tightly around the shaft

One shadow broken fell

The death of one, the deed of the other

And ran so that the first died

It grows like rot if it has once taken root

It crushes joy and happiness and it suffocates common sense

It has no boundaries, it wants to see brothers die

It defiles the purity of the spirit as the blood colors snow

What were they fighting for, what were they fighting for?

In a fight that kills and destroys

One has nothing left

Of what now the other has

Where the blood flowed hot and red

One has lost life and gold

The other won eternal guilt
