В чистом поле страха ты не знал.

Ты свободен был и гордо мчал в лучах рассвета.

Стать быстрее всех, промчаться вдаль быстрее ветра!

И с восходом солнца начинал свой бег,

Мчался своей целью окрылен

По твоим пятам сжигал росу рассвет

мигом раньше сбитую тобой

Ты свободен был среди равнин,

То в аллюр срываясь, то гарцуя рысью.

Но двуногий зверь тебя пленил,

а твой вольный дух не мог смириться с этой мыслью!

Ты рванулся прочь, но просвистел аркан!

Ты от боли взвился над землей.

Но упал, а сверху падала роса,

мигом раньше сбитая тобой…

И ты стал заложником узды,

а при виде плети сердце билось от испуга,

подгоняем криками толпы

и ударом шпор, ты раз за разом мчал по кругу!

А душа рвалась к равнинам и лесам,

где никто не властен над тобой,

Где в лучах рассвета таяла роса

мигом раньше сбитая тобой…

Всадник гонит вскачь, ревет толпа…

Разорвалось сердце, словно финишная лента!

Пусть на миг и пусть с клеймом раба,

но сбылась мечта: ты мчал вперед быстрее ветра!

Но упал на землю и закрыл глаза.

Вот они — свобода и покой!

Жаль, что жизнь тебе не проскакать назад,

Чтоб проститься с солнцем и росой!
