Von neun Schwestern ward einst geboren,

Am Anfang der Tage, am Erdenrand,

Heimdall der Hter der Asen,

Von neun Riesentchtern stammt er ab.

Er weilt auf seiner Burg bei Bifrst,

Himinbirg wird sie genannt,

Dort wohnt er am Himmelsende,

Wacht zu halten fare den Weltenbrand.

Das Gras hrt er wachsen,

Sowie der Schafe Wolle,

Und bedarf weniger Schlaf,

Als ein Vogel.

Er sieht bei Tag und Nacht,

Hundert Tagesreisen weit,

Um die Brcke zu schtzen,

Denn es heit:

Wenn er das Gjallarhorn hervorholt,

Welches verborgen liegt unterm Weltenbaum,

Und er hineinblst, da es alle Welt hrt,

Beginnt der Weltuntergang!
