A ship from far Asia did sail into port

In the cargo were rats all covered with fleas

Come to old Europe to spread their disease

Septicemic plague would kill in an hour

They hid in their houses put signs on their doors

Lord have mercy on us but God let 'em fall

Whole villages vanished beneath Death’s scythe

The Reaper did harvest lost spirits did fly

One third of the world in two years was gone

Foxes and crows did nest in their towers

The churches stood empty the farms all untended

In streets piled bodies all black and distended

The moans of the living and dying combined

A cacophonous nightmare that echoes through time
