When I drink beer I know what happens

I’ve seen it happen a hundred times before

I tell myself I’ll just have a couple

And I’ll have a couple and a couple more

By that 5th one I’m holding my phone

Looking through pictures of me and you

Then I sit there and stare at your number

Thinking I shouldn’t but I always do

Crawl in a cab and head back home

When you answer it gets messed up

I know it’s only 'cause you’re lonely

But that don’t matter when I drink beer

Than holding you but there ain’t nothing worse

When I wake up and that bed is empty

That pain will hit me 'cause you ain’t there

I still want you and I can’t have you

And if I can’t have you, I just want a beer

Right now, I’m thirsty for a cold one

As much as I want one, I’m steering clear

'Cause I’m still hurting from the last time

And i’ts been a long time since I drank beer

So I’ll take water or maybe Coca-Cola

'Cause I know what happens when I drink beer
