Tausendmal bin ich ertrunken

Mit schwerem Stein in meiner Hand

Tausendmal bin ich versunken

In dunkler Träume Totenland

Tausendmal war meine Kehle

Zugeschnürt, ich hing am Licht

Tausend Tode wollt ich sterben

Doch ich konnte einfach nicht

So Tausendschön — der Traum vom Sommer

Doch der Frühling wurde schon nicht alt

Denn es gab einen Winter

Der seit langem schon im Herzen weilt

In meinem Herzen weilt

Tausendmal bin ich gefallen

In dem einen schweren Krieg

Tausendmal die Faust geballt

Die doch in der Tasche blieb

Tausendmal mich wundgefragt

Wie wohl der Ausweg vor mir liegt

Tausend Meere mir erweint

Doch alle Tränen sind versiegt

Einmal noch schau ich zurück

Ich winke all den Zeiten

Die so warm waren voller Glück

Noch seh ich sie von weitem…
