I been down so many times in my life

I’m just looking for a home

On the day I was born all my momma did was cry

It was the day my daddy left with no good-bye

The snow was falling on my birthing day

I swear the tears of my sweet momma never went away

I been down once, I been down twice

I been down so many times in my life

I’m just looking for a home

Spent the last few weeks in a small town jail

On account of nobody that could post my bail

I asked the sheriff man, «Say, tell me what I done?»

He just turned away and said with a smile

«I'll think of something, son.»

I’m just looking for a home

Maybe someday I can find me a place

Where I’m not judged by the clothes on my back

Or the lines on my face

But until that time

I’ll move from town to town

And pray the Lord gives me strength

When the winter time comes around
