Muumipeiton alta tyttönen kurkistaa

hän katsoo salaa kun äiti itkee, aivan hiljaa

miksi äiti itket, miksi et nauraisi vaan

kyllä peiton alla laakson väki minua nyt suojaa

Ehkä tytön sydän on puhdasta kultaa

kun se rinnassa liikaa painaa

miksi kynttilään lyhyeen saa tulta

mutta vain lainaan

Hän laittaa pienen käden rintansa päälle taas

ja kysyy mikä siihen koskee

mikä se nyt olikaan
