Ich saß wankend auf dem Teppich

Und malte Löcher in die Jugend

Oh ich saß müde hinter Tischen

Mit dem Rausch gingen die Tage

Und erzählte einen von Not und Tugend

Das war alles was wir hatten

Und alles was wir wollten

Dass das schon alles war

Mit dem Alter kommt die Weisheit

Nach der Jugend kommt die Eiszeit

Hätt' ich damals nur gemacht was auch richtig ist

Wer ich heute sicher der, der sich selbst vermisst

Doch aus Schaden wird man klug

Und weil’s nach mir ging war’s genug

Ich saß halbblind hinterm' Steuer

Mit viel Glück und null Verstand

Und riss mir Stücke ab vom Leben

Oh ich saß nutzlos zwischen Stühlen

Mir war klar, hier ist mein Platz

Und erzählte einen von Glück und Streben

I would certainly have made more out of all those years

With age comes wisdom

If only I had done what was right back then

Who I am today for sure the one who misses himself

But damage makes you smart

With a lot of luck and no sense

And tore pieces off my life

I knew this was my place

And told one of happiness and striving
