Illan tullen soittaa vaari mandoliiniaan,

muistan isän kertoneen kuinka keuhkoissaan,

sirpaleita kantaa hän nuoruusmuistoinaan,

jälleen tapailee hän vaiennutta viuluaan,

toteaa yksin tein käsky sinne vei,

niistä vuosista hän muuten juuri koskaan puhu ei.
