The Warning -

I’m afraid I’ll stop believing at the moment of my death

Let the feeling come, my senses numb, betraying my last breath

I’m afraid I’ll terrify the world with words to rip the seams

On Earth as it is in Heaven holds the weight of heavy, heavy dreams

Let your eyes see me today, voices teaching

& Come alive with the words you were meant to say

The experience is enough to know

I hold on to the hand that lifts my head up when I’m drowning

All these fears are blinding but greater is my gift of sight

I’m afraid of institutions and the miracles I’ve seen

I’m afraid of all the time I’ve lost and the man I might have been

I’m afraid you’ll see my sins in the dark circles of my eyes

With no pretense or prejudice I offer to you my disguise

Let your eyes see me today, voices teaching

And Come alive with the words you were meant to say

The experience is enough to know

I hold on to the hand that lifts my head up when I’m drowning

All these fears are blinding but greater is my gift of sight

You were just a horizon, somebody’s dream in the distance

Falling asleep at the wheel of decision

You persecute poets then quote from their wisdom

You have to deliver these tidings spoken with breath born in love

So grace us with beauty and grant us our tragedy, majesty

As we lie down with roses to plant for the fall

The pleasantries are over, there are voices on the air

& a thousand faces laughing loud have climbed the broken stairs

We set ourselves against the bite of teeth we cannot see

Thy Kingdom Come, my course be run, and let their metal enter me

Let your eyes see me today, voices teaching

And Come alive with the words you were meant to say

The experience is enough to know

We are all just horizons living like dreams in the distance

Falling asleep and the wheel isn’t spinning

Our poets are shaking the bars of their prisons

You don’t have to suffer these warnings

The signs have all been very clear

You don’t understand all that has happened here

So don’t sacrifice God on your altar of fear
