I am the cat that walks alone

I have no past and no recall

The daytime passes into dusk

The golden motes of dust still dance

But there’s no living for me here

I must move on, the call is clear

And you won’t notice me at all

The night is dark and we’re all grey

A shape that shifts in shadow’s play

An eye that gleams and then lets die

The moment soft as silken down

You’re not listening, so you can’t hear

And I watch you so carefully

Your tricks and habits I absorb

The way you light a cigarette

The drink, the chat, the pointless play

Your earrings swing and catch the light

My spirit walks, in that thin spark

I am the cat that walks alone

I hunt in silence, then I’m gone

My fire burns fierce, but it’s contained

You only thought you caught a glimpse

A trick d light, so hard to say
