Näin syksy-yössä perhosen

Kun kotiin kävelin

Niin kaunis, pieni, valkoinen

Se eli kai vieläkin

Kuin kesän keiju saapunut

Ois syksyn harmauteen

Se aivan hiljaa lepattain

Jäi puiden katveeseen

Sen tiedätkö se perhonen

Et talvi kohta on

Ja tienoot kietoo pakkanen

Jään kylmään verkkhono

Et tyytynytkään kuolemaan

Keralla joukkojen

Vaan tahdoit nähdä talven maan

Niin puhtaan valkoisen

Sä tahdoit täältä lähteä

Vain siivin jäätyvin

Kun viime isku värähtäin

Lyö kylmän portteihin

Taas syksy-yössä mätänee

Nuo lehdet karisseet

Ja kaikki kesän pääskyset

On täältä lähteneet

Vain yksin lentää perhonen

Sen joskus nähdä voi

Se suven viime henkäyksen

Puistikon varjoon toi

Sen tiedäthän sä perhonen

Et talvi kohta on

Ja tienoot kietoo pakkanen

Jään kylmään verkkhono

Et tyytynytkään kuolemaan

Keralla joukkojen

Vaan tahdoit nähdä talven maan

Niin puhtaan valkoisen
