Ce n’est qu’une île au grand soleil

Un îlot parmi tant d’autres pareils

Où mes parents ont vu le jour

Où mes enfants naîtront à leur tour

Ô mon île au soleil

Paradis entre terre et ciel

Où le flot, tout le long des jours

Chante au sable fin sa chanson d’amour

Au grand matin coiffée de rosée

Elle a l’air d’une jeune épousée

Je la regarde et mon fardeau

Semble aussitôt léger sur mon dos

Chez nous, la Femme à l’aube est debout

Coupant la canne ou bien le bambou

L’Homme pêche et tire à son bord

Un grand filet plein de poissons d’or

Que jamais ne vienne le jour

Où l’on entendrait gronder les tambours

Ça ferait peur aux grands oiseaux

Et pourrait troubler nos doux Calypsos

Paradise between earth and sky

Where the flow, all day long

Sing to the fine sand her love song

In the early morning dew-capped

She looks like a young bride

I look at her and my burden

Instantly feels light on my back

With us, the Woman at Dawn is standing

Cutting the cane or else the bamboo

Man fishes and shoots

A large net full of golden fish

May the day never come

Where we would hear the drums rumble

It would scare the big birds

And might trouble our sweet Calypsos
