Als de zomer weer voorbij is en het donker is op straat

als het koud is en het regent krijgt mijn moeder het te kwaad

dan gaat ze bij het raam staan en zegt ze met een zucht:

Jongens dit is toch geen weer meer moet je kijken wat een lucht.

waar is de zon gebleven?

Ik reis hem achterna.

Wat doe ik hier nog langer?

Ik ga terug naar Afrika.

Maar Gelukkig blijft ze bij ons hier in Holland hoort ze thuis,

en als het haar te veel wordt haalt ze Afrika in huis.

Dan gaat ze naar de keuken en dan bakt ze met een vaart,

in minder dan een uurtje Afrikaanse Heimweetaart.

Heel ons huis ruikt naar de Zomer

Uit mijn moeders meisjes tijd.

Heimwee taart met Honing en met liefde toe bereid.

Laat maar lekker waaien buiten,

heus daar malen wij niet om.

Binnen is het hartje zomer,

hier op tafel schijnt de zon.

Als ik wel eens verdriet heb en ik weet zelf niet waarom

Dan denk ik het is Heimwee net als mama naar de zon.

naar een zomer in het zuiden naar mijn moeders Afrika.

Als ik nu toch eens kon vliegen dan vloog ik de vogels na.

Mama ziet dat ik verdwaald ben en volkomen van de kaart

Kom we bakken zegt ze Afrikaanse Heimweetaart.

When the summer is over and it's dark on the street
