Neulich fahr' i mit der U-Bahn von der Braunschweiggassen weg

Weil es ziagt mich in die City, da herauß'n spielt’s an Dreck

Wie ich in der U-Bahn sitze, kommt a ält're Dame her

Und die sagt: Könnt' ich an Platz hab’n, weil da drüben zieht’s zu sehr

Guat i denk' ma, guat i denk' ma, guat i denk' zu älter'n Leuten soll man immer

höflich sei

Und setz mich ins and’re Eckerl und schau in mei' Zeitung rein

Es vergeh’n net zwa Minuten, da is' sie scho’wieder da

Und sie sagt: gegn’s tua ma tauschen weil da drüben stinks a so

Und weil ich ein guater Latsch bin geh i zu an ander’n Sitz

Aber kaum daß i mi' hinsetz' folgt sie mir scho wia da Blitz

Und sie sagt: sie werd’n jetzt denken, daß ich furchtbar lästig bin

Aber dort’n wo i jetzt sitz' scheint so sehr die Sonne hin

Macht nix, sag i, macht nix, sag i, macht nix, sag i, tuans nur platz’n weil i

steig jo eh glei' aus

Und sie setzt sich dankbar nieder doch am Karlsplatz, oh Kraus

Steigt sie gleichfalls aus dem Wagen und sie nimmt mi' bei der Hand

Geh’n sie auch ins Opernkino, also gemma miteinand'.

Bei der Kasse is ein Andrang, aber sie, sie drängt sich vor

Zweimal in der 7. Reihe übertönt sie einen Chor

von Protesten und Gemurmel, Hauptsach' is' doch, wir san drin

Und sie steuert mit Bestimmtheit zu der Eingangstüre hin

Drinnen is' es, drinnen is' es, drinnen is' es ziemlich finster und wir setzen

und ganz fix

Plötzlich sagt sie: Also wirklich auf dem Platz da seh' ich nix

Der vor mir hat einen Hut auf, das is' wirklich hinterlich

Bittschön tausch' ma, sie san größer … und sie klettert über mich.

Das Gemurmel schwillt zum Aufschrei und man buht uns aus dem Saal

Wia ma wieder drauß'n stengan, sagt sie: Bis zum nächstenmal

I fahr' so gern mit der U-Bahn, weil die Leut' so höflich sind

Aber so an netten Menschen find' ma sicher nicht so g’schwind

Wissen’s was sie, wissen’s was sie, wissen’s was sie blede Funs’n,

reden’s mi jetzt nimma an

Sollt' ich sie nocheinmal treffen, spring ich glatt aus dem Waggon

D’rauf ziagt sie mir eine d’rüber, daß i völlig groggy bin

Weil in ihrem kleinen Tascherl … san die Haustorschlüssel drin

I recently took the subway away from Braunschweiggassen

Because it pulls me into the city, out there it's dirt

As I sit in the subway, an elderly lady comes over

And she says: Could I have a place because it's too drafty over there

And sit down in the other corner and look in my newspaper

It doesn't take two minutes before she's back

And because I'm a good slipper, I go to another seat

But as soon as I sit down she follows me scho wia da Blitz

But where I'm sitting now the sun is shining so much

get off right away

And she sits down gratefully at Karlsplatz, oh Kraus

She gets out of the car too and she takes me by the hand

Go to the opera cinema too, so gemma together.

Then she tells me that I'm completely groggy

Because in her little bag ... there are the keys to the house
