Every day, frozen in frames, living living out of magazines

Still I try to do my best, but leave all the rest

I’m still getting to know why I am what I see

I keep to my own affairs, lost in meaningless chores and cares

But they keep telling me why, why I shouldn’t be me

Why my way to be is of no relation to theirs'

I’m doing what I do best, writing songs and lyrics, all the rest

Never even a thought to refuse what I was born to do

Just thinking ‘bout words, be they solemn or jest

I keep on playing what I like, complicated music every night

Hope they don’t try to make me sing a different tune, 'cos

I am a recluse, only playing by the rules

Always afraid to be the fool

And never around for long

I spend many tired hours, gazing up at the tranquil sky

As many worries in mind as the clouds floating by

Cause life can change you in the blink of an eye

I grew up way too fast, had my future planned;

built to last

You could say that it was a mistake, and it’s my life to take

I am a recluse, only playing by the rules

Always afraid to be the fool

And never around for long

Do it my own way, to keep my fears at bay

I am a recluse, always on a lookout for you

Far beyond my mind, there’s a peace I hope to find

All of these familiar routines clothe themselves in different shades of green

But there’s no point to ignore what I’m covering for

Lack of security so very seldom seen

So I’m closing pages of my book, never seen again, no second look

Still there’s a little time left to make amends, but

I am a recluse, only playing by the rules

Easy come and easy go, so I won’t stay here for long

Paying my debts, day after day, always letting my life get in the way

But there are still people to be spoken to, and still some time for an overview

Keeping in mind the things I do, never something that you shouldn’t do

Not everyone can fit into a mould, and it hurts like hell when you have to fold
