I cut myself climbing the fence,

On the sharpened corners of my new-found arrogance

Small hearts form from the blood that poured, but I just ignored them

To my undying credit, I was not distracted

Which is not to speak ill of how you’ve all reacted

It’s just injury and honesty, metaphor and simile

It’s just how it occurs to me, so don’t judge me too harshly

And you’ve committed yourself in your way

Just someone you need nothing from, you say it gets you through the day

And how the hollow shell of a man to sleep next to

He doesn’t even rouse you when he leaves

As he rises to go I wonder what crosses his mind

Then alluding to such things seems unkind

I feel like it’s my right and I may sleep alone in the night

But at least I can tell you why

And at your convenience we can meet

If I’m staring you down as you walk up the street
