Well I went out to wander one mornin'

I strayed a little ways from the home I know

Barely yet a man didn’t know where I was goin'

I followed the river til I come upon a road

I followed that dirt road down into the valley

I walked all day til the day run out

Sky was gettin' dark and I was growin' weary

Just about to give in when I seen a little house

I called to the house and the door swung open

Prttiest girl that I ever had seen

Up from bhind her came her momma and her poppa

Her three older brothers didn’t like the looks of me

The old man reluctantly invited me to supper

Some time to recover and to get a little rest

He pointed to his daughter and told me that I couldn’t

I promised that I wouldn’t but you know what happened next
