Eine bleiche Magd da vor ihm stand

Sie hielt einen Becher in der Hand

Der schimmerte bis auf zum Rand

Wie Blut so rot und schwer

Kein Wort ward gesprochen — die Sonne schwand

Da nahm der Narre aus ihrer Hand

Den Becher und trank ihn leer

Da löschte sein Licht in ihrer Hand
